Maybe Hugh Laurie wasn’t acting much while playing Dr. Gregory House?
The 10-time Emmy-nominated British actor became a bit nervous after a social media user criticized his show, the hugely popular medical drama house.
In a viral tweet, freelance journalist Janet Murray opined that Universal Television is producing house Everything was fairly specific and repetitive, for example, episodes would follow the following pattern: “The patient has a mysterious illness. Hugh Laurie (House) has misdiagnosed. The patient is about to die.”
Then: “Hugh Laurie gets the diagnosis wrong again. He’s been threatened with dismissal. The patient is about to die again.”
And finally: “Hugh Laurie has a last-minute idea for left field. He gets the correct diagnosis. And he doesn’t get ejected.”
Murray concluded by quipping, “Eight seasons of this?”
The tweet had been viewed more than a million times, but to Murray’s surprise, Lowry responded, in typical Gregory House fashion, to defend his show. “Thanks for your critique, Janet. We actually tried a few episodes where House (Hugh Laurie) worked (please put the parentheses in the right place) the first time, but they were only 6 minutes long. NBC wasn’t happy.”
Excited by the subject, Lowry continued, “Then we tried some places where House never succeeds and the patient dies. The audience was not happy. One could apply your scathing analysis to other art forms: J.S. “For you.”
Lowry ended his tweet with an eloquent response aimed at Murray, saying: “Still, I’m looking forward to your first novel!”
house It ran for eight seasons on Fox from 2004 to 2012 and was nominated for the Emmys for Outstanding Drama Series four times, though it never won. Laurie himself was nominated for an Emmy six times for his role as Gregory House, but unfortunately, perhaps, according to Janet’s approval, he never achieved the win.
Thanks for your critique, Janet. We did try a few episodes where House (Hugh Laurie) (please put the parentheses in the right place) got it right the first time, but they were only 6 minutes long. NBC was not happy. Then we tried some places that House never got right and…
