Hugh Laurie (Night manager, house(And Joe Alwyn)Brutal, Favorites) Join Matthew Macfadyen, Charlie Hunnam and Daniel Brühl in John Le Carré’s BBC and MGM+ adaptation Legacy of Spies.

Adapted from Le Carré’s international best-selling book, The spy who came in from the coldand based on material from his 2017 novel Legacy of SpiesThe eight-part drama is written by Stephen Cornwell and Clarissa Ingram.

The show will mark the long-awaited return of spymaster George Smiley to television with Macfadyen in the iconic role and Hunnam as beleaguered, world-weary hostile agent and field agent Alec Leamas. Laurie will play Control, the diabolical and controlling head of the circus, and Smiley’s morally volatile boss, known only by his code name. Alwyn joins as Jim Prideaux, a charismatic circus veteran and vicious scalp hunter, whose off-book exploits in the field “ruffle some feathers in London.”

From The Ink Factory, the spy thriller will co-star Anjana Vasan as Connie Sachs (We are lady parts, Black Mirror: Devil 79(With Charlotte Ritchie)You, ghosts(Steps into the role of Anne Smiley and Lee Ross)Andor, White gold) as Inspector Oliver Mendel. James McArdle (East Town mare, Nice gameplay), John Dalglish (Sexy beast, 3 Body problem(Goran Bogdan)The last panthers, dad) Join the circus as Percy Alleline, Roy Bland and Toby Easterhase respectively, with Adam Huggill (Sherwood, Dear England) as Fawn, Smiley’s tough-as-nails babysitter.

They join the previously announced Brühl as Joseph Fiedler, Devrim Lengnau Islamoglu as Doris Cowens, Agnes O’Casey as Liz Gould, Felix Kammerer as Hans-Dieter Mundt, Dan Stevens as Bill Haydon, Jake Dunne as Peter Guillam, Safiya Oakley-Green as Molly Gibson, Arion Bakari as C. Avlon, and Patrick Goldenberg as Dr. Karl Remick, And Volcker. Bruch as Emmanuel Rapp and Saskia Rosendahl as Lottie Gump.

Michael Lennox is the lead director and executive producer of the series. Claudia Llosa joined as Group 2 Director.

Legacy of Spies Commissioned by Lindsay Salt, Director of BBC Drama. It will premiere on BBC iPlayer and BBC One in the UK and on MGM+ in the US
