Global Citizen is amassing a roster of boldfaced names to participate in a historic summit.
The fifth installment of Global Citizen NOW, a gathering of leaders spanning government, politics, advocacy, business, entertainment and philanthropy, is scheduled to take place at Spring Studios in New York on May 14.
Booked to participate are Global Citizen Ambassadors Hugh Jackman, Rachel Brosnahan, Common and Adam Lambert alongside Ira Starr, Prime Minister of Antigua and Barbuda His Excellency Gaston Browne, FIFA President Gianni Infantino, Authentic Brands Group Chairman and CEO Jamie Salter, Cat Graham, Chef and Restaurateur Marcus Samuelsson, Bridgewater Associates CEO Nir Bar Diya, Gavi, Vaccine Alliance CEO Dr. Sania Nishtar, President of the Vaccine Alliance Bezos Earth Fund. and CEO Tom Taylor, CBS host and anchor Vladimir Duterz, and Octopus Energy Generation CEO Zoisa North-Bond.
The new version of Global Citizen NOW is being launched to “drive action to expand access to education through FIFA’s Global Citizen Education Fund, improve food security and economic opportunity, expand access to electricity and reduce emissions, and address global health and nutrition for the world’s underserved communities,” according to the organization. Supported by Authentic Brands Group, Bridgewater Associates, Cisco, Delta Air Lines, IHC, MetLife, PayPal and P&G, the event will also feature the Global Citizen Award and Cisco Youth Leadership Award.
“While the challenges the world faces may seem daunting, the antidote is action,” said Hugh Evans, co-founder and CEO of Global Citizen. “Global Citizen Now is not another conference where leaders come together to talk about problems. It is where leaders come to announce solutions and take action. By bringing together governments, businesses, philanthropists and artists, we are mobilizing real commitments in real time to help end extreme poverty.”
“Culture can be a motivational tool to inspire change, and I am honored to stand with an international movement that recognizes the collective power of dreams and purpose,” Common added. “I have long championed education and justice, knowing that they are critical pathways that have the power to change life outcomes. This spring, I look forward to taking the Global Citizen platform now alongside changemakers across activism, business, politics, philanthropy and the arts to make a real and lasting impact in communities at home and around the world.”
The summit was held last year in New York, Detroit, Michigan, Seville, Spain, Belem, Brazil, and Johannesburg, South Africa. It is expected that there will be more participants in this year’s batch. More details here.
