Nicholas Weinstock, Emmy Award-nominated producer to cuton board to produce Black Book 2 – Ancient Scores, a sequel to Editi Effiong’s 2023 Nigerian revenge thriller which broke records worldwide.
The original Black bookwas made for only $1 million, and never reached a number. It ranked third on Netflix’s global charts in 2023, ranking in the top 10 in over 69 countries and garnering over 20 million views worldwide. It stars Richard Mofe Damigo as Paul Idema, a hitman and former deacon, who seeks revenge after his son is framed and murdered by a corrupt police unit.
Weinstock’s Invention Studios is producing Black Book 2 Along with Effiong’s Anakle Films. Effiong returns as writer and director on the sequel. The story begins where the Black Book ended, with Paul Idema continuing his attack on the corrupt regime. The sequel “will delve deeper… into themes of justice, redemption and societal unrest in contemporary Nigeria,” says a blurb for the film.

Weinstock’s Invention Studios produced the John Squibb action comedy Thelma (2024), Weinstock’s production credits include features such as Queenpins (2021) and Dinner in America (2020), and the Emmy Award-nominated Showtime series Escape in Dannemora. He is one of the producers of the hit AppleTV+ show to cutWhich was nominated for 53 Emmy Awards.
Black Book 2 This is not Weinstock’s first Nigerian project. He also produces ClarissaAri and Chukwu Esiri, The Modern Nigerian Adaptation of Virginia Woolf’s Novel Mrs Dallowaywhich stars Sophie Okonedo, David Oyelowo, and Ayo Edebiri, which was recently picked up by Neon for US distribution.
Anakle Films is repped by 3Point0 Labs, while Effiong is repped by Zero Gravity to write and direct. Weinstock is repped by CAA and Aaron Bommel of Goodman Genow Schenkman Smelkinson + Christopher.
