Veteran actress Hema Malini celebrated 60 years in Indian cinema at a ceremony attended by many veteran Bollywood stars, political dignitaries and close friends. The ‘dream girl’ of the film industry, who wore a silk sari for the occasion, spoke candidly with her friends and in a touching moment, paid tribute to her late husband Dharmendra.

In the pictures and videos from the ceremony, shared online by lawyer Ashish Shelar, the veteran actress is seen offering flowers in front of Dharmendra’s photo in a heartfelt gesture. She was joined by Union Minister for Parliamentary Affairs Kiren Rijiju as they paid their respects at a formal ceremony before moving on to other light-hearted conversations and looking back at her illustrious career.
Hema Malini talks about Dharmendra’s creative side
During a recent conversation with IANS, the actress shared an anecdote about the making of the famous song ‘Kal Ki Haseen Mulaqaat’ from the 1976 film ‘Charas’ and revealed how Dharmendra brought his creative touch to their performance.
The actress-turned-politician shared, “This song was written here, but shot outside. We were all shooting, and there were a lot of amazing songs. Dharam ji used to add a lot of things from his side.”
Whatever the choreography, it won’t always happen exactly that way. Dharam ji will bring his own thoughts and expressions to it. Naturally, I will adapt my performance accordingly. The opening of Kal Ki Haseen Mulaqaat was interesting.
I would push it in, and then it would go back in again. “Those little things made the performance special.”

The celebration also turned into a reunion of sorts, with veteran actors Jeetendra and Shatrughan Sinha and actor-director Rakesh Roshan among the many guests. Jeetendra arrived wearing a chic black sherwani bandhgala embellished with a gold brooch, while Rakesh Roshan opted for a gray patterned kurta with his signature amber shades.
Shatrughan Sinha later entered wearing a royal blue kurta, matching white pajama.The evening included a special musical tribute to celebrate some of Hema’s most memorable performances, which began with her role in the 1968 film “Sapno Ka Saadagar”. Over the decades, she became one of the most iconic leading ladies in Indian cinema, delivering memorable performances in films such as “Seeta Aur Geeta”, “Sholay”, “Dream Girl”, “Satte Pe Satta” and “Baghban”.
