Harvest Rock announces 2026 festival cancellation: 'We know this will be disappointing news'

Organizers have confirmed the Adelaide Music Festival will take a “year off” in 2026 while planning future editions.

A major music festival in Adelaide has announced the cancellation of its events for 2026, disappointing fans who were anticipating the event’s return. The two-day Harvest Rock Festival, which usually takes place in October, will not take place this year as organizers take what they describe as a “bare year” to focus on future planning. The festival announced its decision in a brief statement posted on social media. “We know this will be disappointing news for many of you, but good things take time, and we are already working on future plans. We appreciate the continued support of the South Australian Government in making the event a great success so far, and look forward to celebrating with you soon,” the announcement read.

This is the second time the festival has been suspended in recent years.

While organizers have not given a reason for pausing the festival in 2024, this year’s cancellation comes despite the 2025 edition being described as a huge success.

The success of the 2025 festival despite weather challenges

According to Indaily, the last edition of the festival was held in 2025 and featured international heavyweight acts including The Strokes, Jelly Roll and Royal Otis who performed across multiple stages at Adelaide’s Eastern Gardens.

Despite heavy rain that derailed parts of the festival’s first day, the event was widely considered a huge success for the region. The state government reported that the first two festivals held in 2023 and 2025 contributed a total of $34.5 million to the state’s economy. While no specific economic data for the 2025 edition was provided at the time of the announcement, the financial impact underscores the festival’s importance to the local hospitality sector and visitor economy.

Fan disappointment follows the announcement

Gamblers expressed their displeasure in the comments section after the announcement on social media. “Shocking news,” one commenter wrote, capturing the sentiment shared by many disappointed festival attendees. Another expressed a deeper personal disappointment, writing “the only thing I was looking forward to this year,” highlighting how important the festival is to many residents’ annual plans.

Festival prospects

While 2026 will not witness any festival, organizers have not ruled out future editions. The government indicated continued communication with the event organizers regarding possible return dates. “The State Government remains in ongoing discussions with event organizers in relation to future events,” the spokesperson concluded, noting that Harvest Rock may resume in subsequent years once organizers identify the appropriate conditions to deliver the caliber of event that has established its reputation among Australian music festivals.
