The regenerative agriculture documentary by Joshua and Rebecca Tickle Tidal wave It won the Golden Globe Award for Documentary Feature, presented in partnership with the Artemis Rising Foundation, at the 79th Cannes Film Festival.
The award was announced at a ceremony at the Plage des Palmes on the Croisette, where actor and producer Kelvin Harrison Jr. presented the award. The Tickells accepted, along with their two children, and received a cash prize of €10,000 from the Artemis Rising Foundation.
Narrated and executive produced by Demi Moore and Woody Harrelson. Tidal wave It is the third film in a trilogy that began with Kissing the ground (2020) and Common ground (2023). Filmed across five continents, it follows farmers, scientists and indigenous leaders working to restore soil health through regenerative agriculture and its potential role in tackling climate change.
In accepting the award, Joshua Tickle described it as a “27-year journey” dating back to the time a mentor first handed him a Hi-8 camera. Rebecca Harrell Tickle used her acceptance speech to demonstrate the film’s real-world impact, citing an increase in American farmland transitioning to regenerative practices — from 3.5 million acres when the previous films were released to more than 86 million acres today. The couple said their goal with Tidal wave The goal is to push that number to 1 billion acres globally, which they describe as the tipping point needed to effectively stabilize the climate.
The jury, which included Golden Globes president Helen Hoehn and Oscar-winning producers Regina K. Scully, Geralyn White-Dreyfus, and Think-Film Impact Production founder Daniel Tworkoff Wilson praised the Tickells for their “dedication to telling stories that engage audiences and inspire us with real solutions.”
Launched in 2025, the award was previously given to Eugene Jarecki for his documentary Julian Assange. The six billion dollar man At Cannes last year, and to Ross McElwee remake At the Venice Film Festival.
