Gray Sloan Memorial’s doors will remain open for at least another year.
ABC has been renewed Gray’s Anatomy for its 23rd season, extending the show’s record as the longest-running prime-time medical drama on American television — and the longest-running prime-time scripted show ever on ABC. The series, created by Shonda Rhimes, is supposed to hit the 475-episode mark next season.
Gray’s Anatomy It will enter the 2026-27 season without two long-serving cast members — Kim Raver and Kevin McKidd will leave the show after the season finale on May 7 (which McKidd also runs). Three actors — Ellen Pompeo, Chandra Wilson, and James Pickens Jr. — have been with the show throughout its run (although Pompeo, who is also an executive producer and narrates the series, has reduced her screen time in recent seasons).
The series remains a strong performer for ABC, especially when broadcast live. Gray’s Anatomy It doubles its initial on-air audience of 2.22 million viewers with a week of live streaming and other delayed viewing, and is among the top 15 network series (excluding live sports) in the key advertising demographic of adults 18-49. The show’s large library, which streams on Hulu and Netflix, is also a staple of Nielsen’s streaming ratings.
Gray’s joins what was previously renovated 911, 911: Nashville, Abbott Elementary School and High potential in ABC’s lineup for the 2026-27 season. The network has not yet made decisions on comedies Scrubs and Transmission gears And drama Rookie, Will Trent and R. J. Decker.
