Golden Globes to exclude AI-generated actors; It says

Performances by actors based on artificial intelligence will not be eligible for Golden Globes, organizers said on Thursday, days after they were also excluded from the Oscars competition. The new guidelines will not automatically disqualify shows that use AI to automatically enhance an actor, but will require a live human to be the main element.

Golden Globe Announces new guidelines

“Shows in which the performance is primarily produced or generated by artificial intelligence are not eligible” for consideration at the annual film and television awards ceremony, which kicks off Hollywood’s awards season, organizers said.“The use of artificial intelligence for technical or cosmetic enhancements (such as de-aging, aging, or visual modifications) may be permissible, provided that the primary performance remains that of the certified individual and the artificial intelligence does not replace or materially alter the work of the performer.”

The Oscars are cracking down on the use of artificial intelligence

The new rules come days after the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences announced that it was cracking down on the use of artificial intelligence. The body that distributes the Oscars said that only real human actors – not their artificial intelligence avatars – are eligible for the biggest awards in the world of cinema, and scripts must be written by a person, not a chatbot. The use of artificial intelligence remains one of the most sensitive issues in the entertainment industry and was central to the 2023 strikes that shut down Hollywood, with actors and writers warning that uncontrolled technology threatened their livelihoods.

The film of the late Val Kilmer is causing a stir

The new restrictions come after the artificial intelligence version of the late Val Kilmer’s film was revealed to an audience of cinema owners, a year after the death of the “Top Gun” star.A young digital version of Kilmer appears in the trailer for the landmark film “As Deep as the Grave”, telling another character: “Don’t be afraid of the dead and don’t be afraid of me.”The project was created with the enthusiastic support of the actor’s family, who granted access to Kilmer’s video archives, which were used to recreate the actor at multiple stages of his life.
