Who will you call? Ghostbusters!
In honor of Ghostbusters Day, which celebrates the release of the original 1984 film on June 8, Sony Pictures is holding an event in New York City on Saturday at the Hook & Ladder 8 Fire Department of New York City (FDNY). The location has served as the recurring Ghostbusters headquarters and real-life filming location since the first film.
There, series creators Ben Hibon and Elliott Kalan, along with Ghost Corps executive producers Jason Reitman and Gil Kenan, announced the official title and logo for the upcoming animated film from Netflix and Sony Pictures Animation. Ghostbusters series: Ghostbusters: Night ShiftIt is expected to be released in 2027.
Reitman and Keenan also acknowledged the charitable efforts of the year-long “Ghostbusters Give Back” initiative, which exceeded its fundraising goal of $500,000. “Golden Trap” awards were presented to the three chapters that raised the most money for local causes: Buffalo Ghostbusters ($67,000), Los Angeles Ghostbusters ($65,000), and Virginia Ghostbusters ($30,000).
A matching donation check for $150,000 was also presented by Jay Levin, Executive Vice President and Chief Strategy and Business Operations Officer at Sony Pictures, along with Reitman and Kennan, to Adam Jaron, CEO of Starlight Children’s Foundation, on behalf of Sony Pictures, Starlight Children’s Foundation and Ghostbusters Give Back. Additionally, all proceeds from the event benefited the FDNY Foundation.
The Ivan Reitman classic starred Bill Murray, Dan Aykroyd, Harold Ramis, and Ernie Hudson as a team of parapsychologists who launch a ghost-hunting project in New York City. The film grossed nearly $300 million at the global box office and spawned four follow-up films: Ghostbusters II (1989), Ghostbusters: Answer the Call (2016), Ghostbusters: Afterlife (2021) and Ghostbusters: The Frozen Empire (2024).
