The Belgian director’s historical drama, the third to be released on the Croisette, revolves around a soldier who grapples with cowardice and heroism in the trenches of World War I.

The first look image of Lukas Dhont Coward, the Belgian director’s latest film heading to Cannes, was released on Thursday by The Match Factory.

The first image of the World War I drama (shown above) reveals Pierre, a young Belgian soldier, grappling with cowardice and heroism on the battlefield. Behind the front lines, Pierre meets Francis, who is asked to find a way to boost morale, according to a synopsis from the producers.
After delivering back-to-back Cannes darlings with the winner of the Camera d’Or Girl (2018) and Grand Prize Winner Closes (2022), Dont returns to Cannes with his third feature film and first feature film. coward It reunites the director with long-time co-writer Angelo Tijssens and is produced by Michiel Dhont under the Reunion banner founded by the Dhont brothers.
coward It is also produced by Lumen, Topkapi Films & Versus (Opus), as part of a co-production with Cine+ OCS, France 2 Cinéma, VTM, RTBF, Proximus, BeTV and Orange. In Benelux, the film is distributed by Lumière and in France by Diaphana Distribution.
