Maybe Nicole Curtis It should be Hired a crisis PR team.
Curtis, the HGTV anchor who was fired after a video of her saying “fart n***a” while filming Rehab addict He leaked and joined Power 105.1 Breakfast Club On Tuesday to explain herself. Things didn’t go well.
“What’s a ‘fart n***er?’ asked host Charlamagne Tha God at the top of the interview. Fair question.
“I have no idea. I have no idea,” Curtis said. “That’s not something I’ve said before, so I have no idea.”
“That’s a word I don’t condone,” Curtis said.
Curtis said she never heard the phrase “fart n***er” before it came out of her mouth. Her explanation seems to be that she accidentally mixed “fart hammer” and “fart digger” into one. It’s true that Curtis uses the nonsense phrase “windhammer” on her show, I’ve heard it, although I can’t specifically remember her saying “windhammer.” That’s not to say I’ve watched every episode of every show Curtis has ever done.
Curtis also stated that she often uses meaningless “fart” phrases due to being a mother and the fact that she cannot swear on the show. She blamed the confusion between “wind hammer” and “wind driller” for her frantic steps in working and speaking.
For the most part, radio personalities didn’t buy what Curtis was selling — especially Charlamagne (real name Leonard Larry McKelvey), who bestowed the nickname “Donkey of the Day” weeks ago when footage of Curtis using the racial slur first leaked. Curtis says that after her staff informed her of the hiring, she reached out to the radio show for a conversation about the incident.
“When this first came out, everyone suggested I hire a crisis PR team, right? Or go do this, do that, and make a good show out of it,” Curtis said. “Like, no, that’s not who I am.”
In response to a question about how the footage became public, Curtis said that “another human being in the world” had access to the video and leaked it. Curtis did not reveal who she thinks this person is, but she said the person she suspects is a man who is not black.
“In my humble opinion, who do I think needed to destroy me and crush my spirit,” Curtis said.
Another not-so-great talking point with Charlamagne was Curtis regularly reminding the hosts that she was born and raised in Detroit, where she still lives. Essentially, Curtis was saying that she lives and works among the black community, has black friends, and is sensitive to the sensitivities behind the N-word.
“I’m not a white bitch,” Curtis said.
