Priyadarshan makes an ‘education’ remark on Rajpal Yadav, calling him street smart amid their spat. Rajpal insists he is educated. Hailing his innocence from films like Bhagam Bhag, Priyadarshan is looking to make a comeback through Bhooth Bangla (Akshay Kumar, Tabu, April 2026 release). Rajpal recently settled the bounced cheques case.
With the ongoing exchange of words between Priyadarshan and Rajpal Yadav, it is clear that Priyadarshan is trying to walk back a not-so-well-received comment, where he framed “education” as “street smarts” and “awareness” rather than lack of a degree.
While Rajpal Yadav has stuck to his guns regarding his actual academic background, Priyadarshan seems intent on shifting the focus of the conversation back to their professional chemistry before their mega reunion in 2026.
Priyadarshan talks about Rajpal Yadav’s innocence
According to Hindustan Times, the director said that his remark focused on innocence and industry struggles, not Rajpal’s education. “Actually, I didn’t mean that. Look, education is something we learn from the street and something we learn from books as well.
Now I just meant “street savvy,” perhaps because education is also awareness. “That’s what I meant.” Rajpal has endured hardships recently, including a court order to surrender in a check bounce case, which was followed by his release. Responding to Priyadarshan’s comment, Rajpal asserted: “This is completely wrong. Priyanji does not know me. I am a well-educated man.”Priyadarshan points out that his observation arose from the actor’s simplicity and confident nature.
It is suggested that Rajpal may come from a village where people are so innocent that they do not understand, and must be able to distinguish between the right people and the wrong people. He explains that this is education in a very broad way. He stresses that this remark was never intended to belittle the actor. He didn’t mean it, he didn’t mean to insult him or anything.
Because he has never seen someone as innocent as Rajpal, Rajpal’s innocence stems from a lack of education more broadly, he said. The director paid tribute to Rajpal, his co-star in timeless comedies including ‘Bhagam Bhag’, ‘Bhool Bhulaiyaa’ and ‘Malamaal Weekly’, the latter of which reached the milestone of 20 years on March 10. Priyadarshan expected a big comeback for him. “After the release of Bhooth Bangla, I think Rajpal will come back as one of the biggest comedy stars… because he did a fantastic job for me in this film.”
