New York City – a place of strength and vibrant energy, home to more than 8 million people – is widely considered one of the greatest cities in the world.
Its rich history and culture have also provided the backdrop for some unforgettable moments in film and television. Of the classics like Taxi driver and When Harry met Sally… To newer titles such as Love Story, Top 2 Lowest and Does this thing exist? Many productions are filmed in iconic locations throughout the city, making New York a character unto itself.
This list won’t include every movie or TV series filmed in every location (because you’ll probably never stop reading), but instead highlights one title where the location left a big impression. Read on to find out what made the cut, listed alphabetically, with filming locations provided for each entry. Use it to plan your next trip to the Big Apple — or simply play tourist for a day. American Museum of Natural History

New York, NY 10024Located on the Upper West Side of Manhattan, the American Museum of Natural History is a natural history museum that houses more than 30 million specimens and objects. The most popular exhibits are a model of a blue whale and the skeleton of a Tyrannosaurus rex, the latter of which inspired the world’s largest tyrannosaurus. Night at the museum Movies starring Ben Stiller. In the movies, the dinosaur – nicknamed “Rexy” – comes back to life at night. While the Rixy scenes were filmed on a soundstage, the exterior shots of the museum were filmed on location.

Park Row and Center StreetOfficially opened in 1883, across the East River, the Brooklyn Bridge was the first bridge to connect Manhattan and Brooklyn, and as the original steel-wire suspension bridge, it became a symbol of New York City’s ambition. Footpaths can be accessed from both sides (mentioned above). The middle of the park is on 72nd Street, near Cross Drive
In the heart of Central Park is Bethesda Terrace, a popular gathering place for visitors to enjoy views of the mall (see above) and the lake with paddle boats (see above). Its driveway, with its detailed tiles, is located along the walkway below the terrace. In its center is the “Water Angel” fountain, making it one of the most attractive sites in the park.
Arch Bridge in Central Park

The middle of the park is on 74th Street, west of Bethesda Terrace
Located in the middle of Central Park, Bow Bridge offers views of the park’s lake and rowboats, as well as the surrounding skyline, including San Remo – a residential building with twin towers. The Victorian-era design of the bridge makes it an ideal place to take photos while strolling through the park. In a pivotal scene from Uptown girls (2003), Molly (Brittany Murphy), overwhelmed with shock, jumps from a bridge into the lake below. Although Murphy did not do the job herself, she filmed the scene on the real location.

New York, NY 10021Paddle boats can be rented at the Central Park Boathouse on the east side of the park’s lake, with excursions offered April through October, weather permitting. The attraction appeared briefly in the 2007 Disney film fascinated. The Mall at Central Park is a scenic park approaching Bethesda Terrace. The sweeping tree canopy makes it one of the most scenic spots in the park, especially in the fall. Jennifer Lopez and Ralph Fiennes filmed a scene there for the 2002 romantic comedy Maid in Manhattanwhere their characters wander around and get to know each other.

Comedians like Dave Chappelle, Kevin Hart, Amy Schumer, Louis CK, Jeff Ross, and Jon Stewart got their start at the club. In Bradley Cooper Is this thing running? Yellow cabs are among the most iconic symbols of New York in film and television. But in Martin Scorsese’s 1976 classic Taxi drivertakes center stage as Robert De Niro plays a taxi driver navigating the city streets. The film follows Travis Bickle’s (De Niro) struggle with isolation and increasing paranoia, ultimately driving him toward violence in his misguided attempt to clean up New York in the 1970s.

New York, NY 10036Despite its congestion, Times Square—nicknamed the “Center of the Universe”—is a busy area, known for its towering billboards, street performances, and proximity to the Broadway Theater District. It is also home to the famous New Year’s Eve ball drop. In the opening dream sequence Vanilla Sky (2001), Tom Cruise’s character, David, drives through an eerily empty Times Square. Surprisingly, the scene was not CGI – the area was actually closed off for three hours one Sunday morning in 2000 to authentically capture the moment.

New York, NY 10025Tom’s Restaurant is the real-life location of the fictional Monk’s Café Seinfeld Based on. It is located near Columbia University in the Morningside Heights neighborhood of Manhattan. In Larry David and Jerry Seinfeld’s beloved sitcom, Monk’s Café serves as a frequent social meeting place for the characters. While the interior scenes were filmed on a soundstage in Los Angeles, the exterior scenes were filmed on location, similar to another popular series, friends.
