Evita Starring Rachel Ziegler is coming to Broadway in spring 2027.

The production, directed by Jamie Lloyd, comes to Broadway following its critically acclaimed West End run at the London Palladium. Ziegler will reprise her role as Eva Perón in a Shubert Theater production to be announced. Additional casting has not yet been announced.

In London, the show became famous for a scene in which Ziegler stands on a stage balcony and sings “Don’t Cry for Me, Argentina” to crowds gathered outside the theater. Lloyd said that wouldn’t be possible in New York (the team previously expressed concerns about safety) but said it would be re-released on Broadway.

“I have been overwhelmed by the amazing response to Evita In London. It is a great honor to work with Tim and Andrew, and I look forward to revisiting the production with Rachel, whose wonderful performances continue to inspire me. As we began discussing the New York production, it became clear that a Palladium screening of Don’t Cry for Me, Argentina would not be possible. “I’m really excited to explore a new idea, made specifically for Broadway,” Lloyd said.

This revival of the Andrew Lloyd Webber and Tim Rice musical, which premiered in London in 1978, reimagines the rock opera in a more musical setting, with Ziegler, in the role of Perón, who has become the controversial First Lady of Argentina, strutting up and down flights of stairs combined with modern, athletic choreography. This is the second musical that Lloyd Webber has remade for Broadway, following a minimalist approach to Sunset Blvd.

The first Broadway production, starring Patti LuPone, opened in 1979 and won seven Tony Awards, including Best Musical. The show was previously revived on Broadway in 2012. It was made into a film starring Madonna.

Ziegler returns to Broadway after starring in the title role romeo + juliet, alongside Kate Connor from September 2024 until February 2025. She recently won an Olivier Award for her performance in Evita.

“Performing Tim Rice and Andrew Lloyd Webber’s wonderful show in London was a dream come true, but being able to partner again with Jimmy to bring Evita to Broadway is the opportunity of a lifetime. I can’t wait to perform in my home, New York City,” Ziegler said.

Lloyd Webber said: “I’m thrilled to see Jamie Lloyd’s extraordinary production of Evita heading to Broadway. It’s so exciting to see Tim and my work reimagined in new ways, and the show has a generational talent in Rachel Ziegler. I can’t wait for American audiences to experience the production that has taken the West End by storm.”
