Spoiler alert: This article contains spoilers and key details from the final season of “Euphoria.” Reader discretion is advised if you haven’t watched it yet.“Euphoria” is known for its intense drama, complex characters, and willingness to push the boundaries of narrative with shocking plot developments.
The series has gained a reputation for delivering emotionally devastating moments that leave viewers reeling.
Now, the penultimate episode of the series delivers one of its most unexpected turns yet, with a major character dying and several storylines reaching critical junctures.Once again, Rue Bennett ends an episode of Euphoria in danger, but one of her high school classmates is worse off. Zendaya’s character has had a rough season, recently narrowly avoiding getting hit in the head with a polo mallet.
Now, though, she’s at risk of being discovered trying to rob a drug cartel, after Faye (Chloe Cherry), who was trying to help Roo after being told Wayne (Toby Wallace) wants Roo dead, turns on her and screams to wake everyone up.
The tragic end of Nate Jacobs in the seventh episode of Euphoria
It’s Nate Jacobs (Jacob Elordi) who ends the episode already passed away, seemingly irrefutably, as we watch his wife Cassie (Sydney Sweeney) mourn his body.
Nate Jacobs has changed a lot since high school. The character who in the first two seasons of the show generated much of the show’s intrigue and threats thanks to his barely-controllable rage, has been laid low by life. His failures at work and his debts to sharks give him a weak and sad resignation. The loan sharks, who have been holding Nate hostage with a million-dollar debt, bury him in a shallow grave with little ventilation hole for the outside world, giving Cassie three days to come up with the money to buy his freedom.
Once Cassie wriggles her way out, she asks Maddy (Alexa Demie), who asks Alamo (Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje), who shows up at the delivery site and shoots one of the loan sharks, and the standoff is over. However, a rattlesnake comes through the hole and bites Nate before Cassie can reunite with him, rendering the whole endeavor pointless.
Cassie’s transformation in “orgasm”
One might question the fact that Maddie is helping Cassie at all, as the latter’s hasty decision in the previous episode to quit OnlyFans in pursuit of a legitimate acting career cuts off a vital stream of income for her aspiring manager.
Cassie is fired from L.A. Nights after the production team decides it doesn’t want to have to explain about its star’s past work.Cassie carries out a clever scheme with Dylan Reed (Homer Gere), the actor who shared scenes with her before she was fired. On a date with Dylan, she gets him drunk, has sex with him, and while he’s in a post-coital haze, steals his phone to post from his Instagram account that Cassie is great in bed. All the while, there’s a poignant reminder of suffering elsewhere: Nate’s frozen finger sitting in Dylan’s ice-cold water, unnoticed.
Ali’s journey towards salvation in “Ecstasy”
In Euphoria on the Rue’s iconic flashbacks, we see Ali (Colman Domingo) on his journey to find sobriety. After a violent fight with his wife, Ali spends time in a failed home with a character played by Natasha Lyonne. Later, as he goes through the motions, we see him trying to care for other addicts, especially during the dark days of the coronavirus when in-person meetings end.Ali is now trying to do the same, again, with Rowe, although he seems to have a sense that this will be an increasingly difficult fight.
Rue’s spiritual awakening threatens her survival
After Ru saw a burning bush as a sign, she told Ali that she heard God’s voice telling her: “I have heard your cry, and I feel your pain; have faith and I will take you out of Egypt and lead you to the Promised Land.” In her relationship with faith, Rue seems to have a new sense that anything is possible. This newfound trust may be the reason why Roo is playing an increasingly complex game between two rival gangs, and is now working to convince Lori (Martha Kelly) that Alamo doesn’t trust her because he knows her true loyalty lies with Lori. To reward Rue’s stated desire to switch sides, the cartel threatens her with violence before cutting off her palm with a knife. Rue tries to rob it with Faye’s help in the middle of the night, but the state of the safe, which contains only ID cards and no money, convinces Faye that Rue has been lying the whole time.
Her scream alerts everyone, putting Rue in immediate danger as the season reaches its endgame.
