British actress Emily Watson will serve as President of the Jury for the 32nd Sarajevo Film Festival, and will also receive the festival’s Honorary Heart of Sarajevo Award.

Jovan Marjanovic, Festival Director, said: “Twenty years after her last visit to Sarajevo, we are truly delighted to welcome Emily Watson back to the Festival – this time not only as a recipient of the Honorary Heart of Sarajevo Medal, but also as President of the Competition Jury.”

“An actress whose talent, intelligence, and dedication to the craft have left a profound mark on contemporary cinema, Emily Watson has, throughout her remarkable career, moved audiences and critics alike with performances of extraordinary precision and emotional power.” “I think the filmmakers in this year’s program will be just as excited as we are to know that their work will be seen in Sarajevo,” he added.

A two-time Oscar nominee, Watson is one of the UK’s most prolific actors. She recently played Mary Shakespeare in the film adaptation of Maggie O’Farrell’s novel Hamnetwhich would go on to win the BAFTA Award for Outstanding British Film.

Other notable film credits include Lars von Trier Breaking waves,A24 God’s creatures, Little things like this With Cillian Murphy, Netflix Drama Stevebesides Gosford Park, Punch drunk love, Mrs. Potter and The theory of everything.

On television, she starred opposite Olivia Williams and Mark Strong in the HBO Max series Dune: Prophecy And also in Chernobyl With Jared Harris and Stellan Skarsgard, hairdoand Apple tree yard. Watson also boasts extensive theatrical credits including a large number of productions with the Royal Shakespeare Company.

The 32nd Sarajevo Film Festival is scheduled to take place from August 14 to 21, 2026.
