An 80th birthday seems like a happy occasion. But things are more complicated in the case of the powerful Spanish Novak family in the center of the country tribute (Homnagi), SkyShowtime’s new original Spanish series premieres Thursday.

An exciting family film, from the creative minds behind it Shadows (Matisse), which has been a huge success for Paramount and Comcast’s European streaming joint venture and is available in over 20 markets, four episodes will premiere, followed by the remaining four episodes a week later, on April 30. tribute Stars Eusebio Poncela, in his last fictional role before his death, Miriam Giovanelli, Juana Acosta, Enrique Arce, Raul Brito, Luis Tosar, Luisa Mayol, and Elsa Pataky. They also appeared in ShadowsWhich tells a different story with different characters. in tributeThey were joined by the likes of Manu Ríos, Álvaro Rico, Angela Molina, Georgina Amoros and Oscar de la Fuente.

Pataky also serves as an executive producer on the series, which is directed by Sergio Canovas, who is also an executive producer. The series was written by Javier Naya and Martin Suarez and created by Cánovas.

tribute The film tells the story of Adolfo Novak, played by Poncela, “the patriarch of one of the most powerful families in the country, who gathers his family and closest friends to celebrate his 80th birthday,” as the show’s synopsis says. “Behind the toasts and smiles lie decades of secrets, betrayals, blind loyalties and a powerful desire for revenge. The evening will end with an explosion and the revelation of a truth that, when it finally comes to light, will be more unexpected and surprising than any previous suspicion.”

Kay Fink, SkyShowtime’s chief content officer, praised the original series with its “fantastic cast and compelling story”. tribute It is produced by Secuoya Studios and Stellarmedia in association with SkyShowtime and in association with Prime Video, which holds the second window rights to the show.

Pataky, known for her role as Elena Nieves in the film Fast and furious Franchise and her work in films such as Furiosa: The Mad Max SagaI talked to THRin a video call from Madrid, about tributeHer on-screen and off-screen roles and how her real-life family’s sudden appearance came about.

Thank you for the wild ride of the show! I feel like everyone who thinks their family is difficult might come away from watching the series with a slightly different outlook. Can you tell me a little about what was attractive to you? tribute?

Yes, what a wonderful family! What attracted me to this project was the psychology and character of each character [it shows that] We are basically victims of our circumstances, of what happened, especially in our childhood, and all those experiences that you had with your parents and with your brothers and sisters. What’s interesting about this family is that they’re all competitive.

I don’t think it’s really about power and how much money they have. It’s about love. They are competing for this love that they have never had before. [That also] It affects your mental health…and your relationships. So it was very complex and interesting at the same time, to tell a story with a lot of emotions and feelings.

Tell us a little about your character, Stella Novak. She’s very smart, very focused, and very driven, but she also has all kinds of problems with her mother. It’s a completely different character than your role in it Shadows. What was it like for you to dive into this new character with a lot of the same members of the creative team you worked with? Shadows?

It was great because the team felt like a family. We love working together. We wanted to do something together again when[[Shadows]It was completed. [Sergio Cánovas] I came up with the idea of a series with the same actors but a different story. The difficulty was creating a story that would appeal to all of us. They brought us all together again, and imagined something so that everyone would be happy and say, “Oh, I love my character.” Instead of saying, “Oh, I want his personality. Hers is so much better!” But I think the creator knew us well enough to develop a story that each of us was happy with.

Stella somehow gives in. She wants…to forget everything and her family. But she also feels she needs to find peace with herself. She comes [at it] With good intentions – to forgive her for something that she thinks her sister was really angry about, because Stella feels like she abandoned her. She has abandoned the entire family and is trying to come back for a good reason. Then it becomes very complicated, even with the best intentions, due to family circumstances and the unconditional love that Stella has for her father. She ends up doing things because she feels she has to protect the family in some way, so that everything ends up in a good place. But she still has those big wounds.

You don’t just act honor, But you also executive produced the series. How do you like being a producer, and how did you end up in this role?

I was talking to Sergio, the manager, when we finished ShadowsAnd I told him this was the thing I really wanted to do. I’ve been trying to put together some projects and trying to get the rights to the books. He said, “You’re going to be a great producer. Why don’t we do this together, so you get that experience?” We are real friends.

And it was wonderful. It was so natural. You see things from the other side, including all problems. So, you learn a lot. it’s great. I love this role. It’s something I’m really interested in and I had a lot of fun with this project.

Did your acting experience help you in your role as executive producer?

It’s different. When you’re really on the scene [as an actress]The manager kept me [focused] there. But I remember one moment that was really interesting, when I put on my producer hat. It was a scene where one of the actresses had to punch someone. I could see that the actors were suffering. The manager said this doesn’t work. I said, “No, this will work. We’ll make it happen.”

So I intervened. The actress was really scared, as she had never done action films. Therefore, she was really afraid of hurting the other person. So, I came in with all this energy: “This is the way you have to do it. This is the reaction.” [move] What she should do when she gets punched. So I punched her and showed my physical reaction [it look and feel] TRUE. It was great, because no one there had done an action movie, and I got to do it. I felt proud of myself, because it was a producer moment when no one could do anything, and I had to step in and make it happen.

There’s a scene with you and your real family in a cameo, which I won’t completely spoil for readers. I was rubbing my eyes because I thought I realized it bull Frame that man on the screen and the young man you heard is your son. How did this happen with your husband Chris Hemsworth and one of your sons?

As a producer, you always like the cheapest way to do something. We knew we had to film in Australia. The manager said we should close [the production in Spain]And we weren’t paying for everyone to go to Australia. I said, “No problem, we’ll do it. I’ll bring my husband, my kids, and my brother behind the camera.” We shot it very simply with one camera. Of course, Chris was there, and it was close to my house. It’s a little surprise. This is very unexpected.

tribute It’s only premiering now, but given how much fun the creative team had ShadowsIs it possible that we will see another series for this team?

We have already talked about it, because we have a good relationship. I think energy is something you can see. When you have the opportunity to work with the same people you love and have a nice experience with, you are sure to do it [want to do more]. We’re trying to get the director and writers to do something else.
