Peacock has given a straight-to-series order to a show based on the popularity of Matt Dinnaman Dungeon crawler Karl books.
The live-action series comes from Universal Global Television and Seth MacFarlane’s Fuzzy Door. Universal International Studios, UGT’s predecessor, Fuzzy Door, will acquire the rights to the Dinnaman books in 2024. Chris Yost (Maul: Shadow Lord, Thor: Ragnarok) is set to write and executive produce the series.
“I’m thrilled to announce that our friends at Peacock have *officially* given the green light to Dungeon crawler Carl “TV series!”, Dinnaman wrote on Instagram. “Chris Yost, Seth MacFarlane, and his team at Fuzzy Door and I are really excited to get to work.” Dinnaman also noted that he and Yost are scheduled to lead a Dungeon crawler Karl panel at Comic-Con in July.
This is the series’ main tagline: “An alien invasion has wiped out most of humanity and forced any survivors to fight for their lives in a sadistic, intergalactic game show. Sounds bad, right? Now try doing it with bare feet and a self-centered talking cat wearing a crown as your partner. Welcome to Dungeon Crawler World: Earth, where the end of the world will be televised… Coast Guard vet Carl finds himself stuck with his ex-girlfriend’s show cat, Princess Donut Queen Anne Chunk, as they try to survive the apocalypse, fighting monsters, aliens, crazy AI, and even other survivors – it’s all for good TV, entertainment isn’t optional.
Yost will produce the series with MacFarlane, Erica Huggins and Rachel Hargreaves-Heald for Fuzzy Door. Dinnaman is co-executive producer.
