Some good news for Dr. Foster Fans: The hit drama is set to return for a third and final season.
The BBC revealed on Wednesday that season three of The Mike Bartlett Show will see Suranne Jones reprise her award-winning role as Gemma Foster, opposite Knight of the Seven KingdomsBertie Carville as Simon and Tom Taylor as Tom.
Produced by Drama Republic for BBC iPlayer and BBC One, the five-part series will begin filming in and around Hertfordshire later this spring.
“Ten years ago, when Gemma Foster discovered that her husband Simon was having an affair, she took brilliant revenge. But the fallout was devastating when her 15-year-old son Tom disappeared. Now, in series three, Gemma is still a GP, still in the same house, but on the brink of a new beginning: she has met someone new and is getting married,” the story synopsis reads. “But as the wedding day approaches, and friends and family gather, the shadows of the past begin to resurface, threatening her happiness and reputation. As Gemma struggles to protect those she loves and expose all who intend to harm her, will she be able to put the past to bed, seek justice, and demand the future she deserves, before it is too late?”
“I knew it was the right time,” Jones says when she got the call to return as Gemma Foster.
“We needed space from the first two series, and we needed Tom – Gemma and Simon’s runaway son – to return as an adult with questions,” the series said. Mr. Jack star. “For me, this time it’s about accountability and asking: Can we really cut ties with our past and the damage or trauma that haunts us, so that we can move forward more fully?” “Gemma and Simon have a lot to figure out… It’s been an exciting time to be working with the wonderful Mike Bartlett again, and the Drama Republic team, on the scripts and now I can’t wait to start filming.”
Writer, creator and executive producer Bartlett added: “I always hoped we could tell the final part of Gemma’s story, which is about a woman seeking justice in an unjust world. This feels just as appropriate now as it did when Gemma first found blonde hair on the mantle.”
Dr. Foster The series caused a sensation in the UK when it aired in 2015 and 2017, with nearly 10 million people watching the final episode of the second series. It was also critically acclaimed, with Suranne Jones winning a BAFTA for her performance.
The third series is produced by Drama Republic, a subsidiary of Mediawan Group. It will be directed by John Hardwicke (One day, pirates), with Negi Watson (Killing Eve, the killer) As a producer. Executive producers are Roanna Penn and Jude Liknitsky (For Drama Republic), Mike Bartlett and Suranne Jones.
