Sanjay Kapoor Rs 30,000 Crore Delhi High Court will allow forensic examination; Karisma Kapoor and Rani Kapoor granted permission to continue the inspection

The children of Karisma Kapoor and Rani Kapoor, mother of the late Sanjay Kapoor, won against Priya Kapoor and her son, after the Delhi High Court allowed a forensic examination of the late industrialist’s will.

The estate, valued at around Rs 30,000 crore, made headlines due to a family dispute that broke out over the will, and is currently kept in a sealed cover with the court registry.According to a Bar and Bench report, in an order dated February 26, Joint Registrar Gagandeep Jindal allowed Sanjay Kapoor’s ex-wife, Karishma, and his mother, Rani, along with their authorized representatives and forensic or handwriting experts, to examine the original will on March 10 at 3:00 p.m.

The Registrar directed that the inspection be conducted in the presence of an authorized lawyer representing Priya Kapoor.

The court added that if Priya’s lawyer fails to remain present, Karishma and Rani will be allowed to continue the search. However, the order also states that no photos or copies of the original will will be allowed during the search.During the hearing, Karishma’s lawyer said that although a copy of the will was shared earlier, an examination of the original document was necessary to verify its authenticity.

They requested permission to conduct a forensic analysis to determine future legal steps.

On the other hand, Priya opposed the petition, stating that such applications cannot be maintained at this stage. They also requested that any forensic examination be postponed until the evidentiary stage of the hearing. According to reports, the Joint Registrar was also said to “lack jurisdiction” to decide on the inspection request. The court rejected these submissions, stating that placing the document in a sealed cover does not automatically restrict the registrar’s powers under the Delhi High Court Rules to allow inspection.

The Registrar further noted that no specific court order had been issued directing the confidentiality of the will. The will is at the center of an ongoing legal battle involving several members of Sanjay Kapoor’s family. Karisma Kapoor’s two children and his mother have approached the Supreme Court challenging the validity of the will that allegedly transfers his property to his widow Priya and their son.
