Death becomes hers It will end its run on June 28, after about 20 months on Broadway.
The musical, based on the 1992 film, opened at the Lunt-Fontanne Theater on November 21, 2024, after previews began on October 23. While it was initially a well-attended, high-grossing show, often bringing in more than $1.2 million a week, the musical saw its revenues and attendance decline starting in January. As of the week ending May 10, the musical has grossed just over $760,000.
The musical features direction and choreography by Christopher Gattelli, a book by Marco Bennett, and an original score by Julia Mathieson and Noel Carey. The lead roles of Madeleine Ashton and Helen Sharp were originated by Megan Hilty and Jennifer Simard, both of whom were Tony nominated for their roles. Hilty played her last performance on January 11. The current cast includes Simard, Betsy Wolfe as Madeline Ashton, Christopher Sieber, Michelle Williams, Torian Everett, and Josh Lamon.
The musical received 10 Tony Award nominations, tying the most nominations for the 2024-2025 season, but ultimately took home only one award for Best Costume Design.
“Bring Death becomes hers Going to Broadway has been an incredible joy, and we are so proud of every artist, musician, crew member and individual who has helped make this show what it is today. Night after night, it was fun to watch audiences come together to laugh, celebrate and embrace the entertaining spirit of this production. “We are incredibly proud of what this show has given the world, and we are excited for it to continue its life as it tours across the U.S. and abroad in the years to come,” said Louie Cunningham, senior vice president and head of creative and strategy at Universal Theatrical Group on behalf of the producers.
Death becomes hers She will launch a multi-year North American tour next September at Playhouse Square in Cleveland, Ohio.
