Dan Levy talks about what brought “huge relief” after the sudden loss of Schitt’s Creek star Catherine O’Hara

After appearing on Max & Helen’s on Monday night alongside co-creator Rachel Sinnott to discuss her new Netflix series Big mistakesDan Levy appeared on the East Coast on Tuesday to promote the crime thriller The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon.

It marks Levi’s first promotional tour since the death of Catherine O’Hara, a beloved “extended family” member Schitt’s Creek Co-star. Fallon noted that the first time Levy appeared on his show was with him Schitt’s Creek Family including O’Hara. “I have to say I’m very sorry about my death,” Fallon said.

“Listen, I think it’s a collective loss,” Levy said in response. “She was the greatest. She’s irreplaceable. The great solace for me was seeing how much love she had – the outpouring. Everyone felt like they kind of knew her.”

Fallon praised her as “one of the funniest comedians I’ve ever seen. She can act characters. Great.” “Incredibly talented at improvisation. One of the great, great queens,” Levy added.

O’Hara died at the age of 71 last January after a short illness. In the wake of her death, many of her friends and former co-stars took to social media to share love and offer condolences to her family. “What a gift I’ve had to dance in the warm glow of Catherine O’Hara’s brilliance for all those years. Having spent over fifty years collaborating with my father, Catherine was extended family before she played mine. It’s hard to imagine a world without her. I will cherish every funny memory I’m lucky enough to make with her,” Levy posted at the time. “My heart goes out to Beau, Matthew, Luke and everyone in her big, beautiful family.”

His father, Eugene Levy, said at the time: “Words seem inadequate to express the loss I feel today. I have had the privilege of knowing and working with the great Catherine O’Hara for over fifty years. From our beginnings at Second City Theater, to SCTV, to the films we made with Chris Guest, to our six glorious years.” scitt creek, I cherished our working relationship, but most of all our friendship.
