They say no good deed goes unpunished. For Dakota Johnson, this seems to be literally the case when she lost her acting job due to trying to be polite to everyone at her audition.

the Fifty shades of grey and Splitsville The actress recalled the audition experience during an interview with Hits Radio (below). Johnson didn’t name the project, but she said she was told she lost the gig — where she made it to the second round of a casting call — because she took time to introduce herself to everyone in the room.

“I had an audition once — it was a callback — and I went into the room, shook everyone’s hand and introduced myself,” she said. “Then I did the scene and left. The reactions I got [afterward] Was it because I went and introduced myself and shook everyone’s hand, that I was being ‘cocky’, that I was ‘talking the talk’ and that I was being full of myself? And I was like, “Okay, what?” I didn’t get the job because they said I was “arrogant.” But I just had morals. It was so crazy.

It’s an obvious joke, but: if only it was this role Madame Web.

Johnson is currently promoting the UK version of Splitsvillewhich premiered at Cannes last year to glowing reviews. The independent comedy from director Michael Angelo Covino “explores the chaos that follows a divorce announcement, focusing on one couple and the consequences of an open marriage.” The film also stars Adria Arjona, Kyle Marvin, and Covino.

Hollywood Reporter It’s been called “the rare indie comedy where style matters as much as substance” and the film is currently streaming on Hulu.
