“Dada”: Rajkummar Rao begins filming Sourav Ganguly’s biopic, shares BTS photos from the set

Mumbai, April 1 (IANS) Bollywood actor Rajkummar Rao, who was last seen in the film ‘Maalik’, has announced the shooting of his upcoming film ‘Dada: The Sourav Ganguly Story’.

Bollywood actor Rajkummar Rao, who was last seen in Maalik, has officially started shooting for his next film Dada: The Sourav Ganguly Story, directed by director Vikramaditya Motwane.On Wednesday, the actor took to his Instagram account and shared BTS pictures from the sets of the film.

The first picture is of the clapperboard from the sets. The second photo is of Sourav Ganguly’s stand at Eden Gardens Stadium in Kolkata.

“And it begins… the one and only #DADA,” he wrote in the caption.

Rao started preparing for the film nearly 6 weeks ago. In a post, the actor shared in February that he would be losing some extra weight to play the sportsman. “And now is the transition phase and the right time to lose those extra kilos and prepare to slide into Ganguly mode,” he wrote in a post.

Our dada. I will always work as hard as I can to engage and entertain you with my work. Lots of love.”Director and choreographer Farah Khan took to the comments section and wrote: “All the best raaajjjjj.”

About the movie

The makers are yet to share the official plot of the film, ‘Dada: The Sourav Ganguly Story’, and it is expected to cover his cricketing career, the captaincy era, and his role in shaping modern Indian cricket.Ganguly, who played for the Indian cricket team from 1992 to 2008, has scored 18,575 runs in Tests and ODIs, and has 38 centuries to his credit.

In an interview with PTI in July 2025, Ganguly said that Rao was the right choice to portray him in the film. He said: “I think the right person is the one to do it… I will help him with everything.”
