Dacre Montgomery says OCD was the 'most relatable' part of his villain role in 'Faces of Death'

Dacre Montgomery finds his role as an assassin in the new film Faces of Death connected to his own experiences with obsessive-compulsive disorder. He is associated with the character’s meticulous nature and attention to detail, a trait he brings to all of his performances. Director Daniel Goldhaber felt that Montgomery’s personal relationship was crucial in shaping the villain.

Dacre Montgomery reflects on his villainous role in Faces of Death. The actor says his obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) was the most relevant part of the role. The Australian actor stars opposite “Euphoria” star Barbie Ferreira in the new horror film as Arthur, who recreates and uploads video clips of the killings featured in the titular 1978 film.

Dacre Montgomery says OCD was the most relatable part of the character

In a conversation with PEOPLE, Montgomery shared that what he found most relatable to the killer in the mask and the color red was his experience with obsessive-compulsive disorder. “Definitely what connected to me about Arthur was, frankly, obsessive-compulsive disorder,” he says. “That’s definitely my thing. I live with that and I manage it.”Explaining what he found so relatable to the villain, the Stranger Things star says: “There’s been a lot of that kind of precision and attention to detail that I put into all the characters I play, but it’s very methodical.”“From the moment you see him in the movie, he’s halfway to enacting his plan and he’s put a lot of thought into it,” Montgomery continues, talking about Arthur. “And I think I can’t definitely relate to working on a murderous conspiracy in my life, but definitely just the attention to detail, and I felt connected to it, yeah, huge.”

The “Faces of Death” director feels Dacre Montgomery is the perfect fit for the role

“Faces of Death” director Daniel Goldhaber, who also co-wrote the film with Issa Mazi, says this juxtaposition between Montgomery and his on-screen killer helped shape the character’s final appearance.

According to the director, Arthur would have looked completely different if he had been played by another actor. “I met with a few people for this movie,” Goldhaber told the outlet. “Once I met Dacre, I felt like it just had to be him because everyone… treated this character they were talking about like someone else, like this guy they’d seen in the media. Dacre showed up and was like, ‘Here are all the ways I connect with Arthur personally.'”Faces of Death, which also stars Charli xcx, Josie Totah, Aaron Holiday and Jermaine Fowler, will be released on April 10.
