Broadway’s biggest celebration is underway with the 79th Annual Tony Awards honoring the best productions and shows of the season.The evening began with the “Act One” pre-show, hosted by Laura Benanti and Tituss Burgess, before the main concert at Radio City Music Hall.
Singer Pink is hosting this year’s telecast.“The Lost Boys” and “Schmmegadon!” They emerged as the night’s most nominated shows.The two musicals head into the ceremony with 12 nominations each, putting them in the lead across multiple categories. In second place is the famous film “Ragtime”, which received 11 nominations, while “Death of a Salesman” and “Cats: The Jellicle Ball” each received nine nominations.A total of 24 Broadway productions are competing across 26 categories. In addition to the competitive categories, the gala is scheduled to celebrate several notable anniversaries in Broadway history. Special performances will be held honoring influential and long-running musicals, including “The Book of Mormon,” “Chicago” and “A Chorus Line.”Audiences can also expect performances from all seven nominees competing in the Best Musical and Best Musical Revival categories.
