Odyssey The World Tour touched down in New York City on Tuesday evening, closing out Lincoln Square on a star-studded red carpet accompanied by soldiers and a massive Trojan Horse.
The 40-foot statue is more than just a prop to promote the film, as it also plays a pivotal role in the story – Odysseus (played by Matt Damon) and his men hide inside to launch their secret attack to win the Trojan War, before they begin their long and treacherous journey home. Christopher Nolan and his team built the horse—along with several other key scenes—virtually for the film, and even saw the director himself climb inside.
said John Leguizamo, who plays Odysseus’ trusted friend Eumaeus Hollywood Reporter On the red carpet, he saw the Trojan Horse for the first time when “I was looking for Chris Nolan to meet him, and they told me he was inside the horse with 20 actors and the CEO.” [Hoyte van Hoytema] And an IMAX camera. I couldn’t believe it. I said, wow, this guy is a leader. This man won’t ask you for anything until he tries it himself.

Damon — who walked the New York City carpet alongside fellow stars Tom Holland, Anne Hathaway, Zendaya, Charlize Theron, Lupita Nyong’o, Elliot Page, and Jon Bernthal — also talked about filming the Trojan Horse sequence during the press blitz, telling GamesRadar+ that Nolan didn’t have a plan on how to film it until the day.
Damon said Nolan told the group they were “going to cram in there and figure it out,” as the star recalls “this sense of claustrophobia, which was developing organically… Hoyt was looking through the lens, and Chris was next to him. They just built it in real time. It was amazing to see. If we had planned it, I don’t think it would have had the same energy.”
The original horse from the film is currently on display outside the AMC Theater at Universal Studios Hollywood’s CityWalk. Odyssey It hits theaters on Friday.
