Celina Jaitley reveals that the twins read the divorce notice written in German; Her husband suggested that she take a cleaning job

Celina Jaitley recalled that her twins read her divorce notice in German from her husband, Peter Haag, claiming that she was later asked to work as a supermarket cleaner in Austria to gain custody. She filed a domestic violence case against Peter, who, along with his father, sent her defamation notices over her public statements.

Celina Jaitley has spoken candidly about one of the toughest moments in her ongoing divorce battle with her estranged husband, Peter Haag. She described the day the divorce papers arrived, revealing that because they were written in German, her twin sons had to read the notice out loud to her.

She also claimed that she was later told that she would need to find work in Austria to be able to see her children.

Selena It came to me the day the divorce papers arrived

Speaking to India Today, Selena said that the divorce papers arrived on a festive day, her 15th wedding anniversary. She recalled that her husband accompanied her to the post office to receive the documents, but he refused to translate them for her, even though the notice was in German, a language she is not fluent in.

“I thought it was a message from the municipality or it had something to do with my residence,” she said.

He took me down the hill where our house was, and then up again. My twins were at home doing their homework. I asked them, “Peeta, can you read this to me please?” It is a high-level German language. I won’t spend half an hour translating it. My twins had to read the horrible divorce notice that had all kinds of weird accusations against me.

I was divorced because I could not meet my husband’s needs and our marriage broke down beyond repair. “I thought it was a joke.”

Selena also shared that the judge recommended that the couple separate amicably, and she immediately responded by sending a proposal for an amicable settlement to her husband’s attorney. “I said I don’t want anything. I just want my assets back and the money I invested, and I want us to continue with joint custody,” she said.

I went to my husband to talk to him after his lawyer said I wouldn’t be able to return to Mumbai after the divorce, and was told: “Find a job if you want access to the children.”

So I said: What work will I do? I was told: I will get you a job as a cleaner in a supermarket. “We don’t look down on jobs here like you do in India.”

Celina Jaitley Marriage and Domestic Violence Complaint

Selena married Peter Haag in 2010. The couple have three children, after losing one of their twins to heart disease in 2017.

In November 2025, Selena filed a complaint against Peter under the Protection of Women from Domestic Violence Act, alleging that she had been subjected to ongoing domestic violence.

Celina Jaitley’s FIR and custody battle

Reports suggest that the Mumbai Police filed an FIR against Peter based on a complaint filed by Selena. She has also moved under the Protection of Women from Domestic Violence Act, 2005 seeking maintenance and compensation. Selena also claimed that she was denied access to her children, despite the joint custody arrangements in place between the two.

In May, Semwal & Co, a Mumbai-based law firm, confirmed that Selena’s estranged husband, Peter Haag, and his father, De Wolfgang J. Haag, had sent separate legal notices to the actor. According to the notices, she made defamatory statements about them through interviews and social media amid their ongoing divorce and child custody battle. The family has denied all allegations of abuse, harassment and intimidation, and has repeatedly objected to the parenting of their three children publicly, demanding the removal of the disputed content and issuing a public apology, warning of civil and criminal action if their demands are not met.
