Gujarati cinema is gearing up for a historic moment as ‘Laalo – Krishna Sada Sahaayate’ gears up for its market premiere at the prestigious Cannes Film Festival. The film will be screened at the Cannes Market, one of the most important global platforms for film promotion, acquisition and international distribution.

The filmmakers revealed a special invitation poster featuring the message “You are invited.” The artwork describes Laalo as “the most blockbuster Gujarati film of all time”. The visually stunning design features a silhouette crowned with a peacock feather, a symbolic nod to Lord Krishna. “This is not just a show, it is a celebration of culture, cinema and faith,” the filmmakers wrote.

Cannes 2026 starts on May 12
The 79th Cannes International Film Festival kicks off on May 12 at the Palais des Festivals et Congrès on the French Riviera. This year’s edition receives special attention due to the strong Indian presence in various sections and events.
Indian director Payal Kapadia, who won the Grand Prix in 2024 for All We Imagine as Light, will serve as president of the jury for the 65th Critics’ Week in Cannes.
Indian celebrities to make their presence felt
According to News18, “Along with Tara Sutaria, Amy Virk will be making her debut at the film festival. While Tara will be representing a brand, Amy Virk will be attending the screening of his Punjabi film, Chardikala, along with Rupinder Kaur Gill.” Tara Sutaria and Amy Virk are among the Indian personalities who made their debut at Cannes this year.

Anurag Kashyap and Anubhav Sinha Join the festival
Anurag Kashyap and Anubhav Sinha will also be present at Cannes 2026 as per reports. Anurag has a long association with the festival. His films, including ‘Udaan’, ‘Gangs of Wasseypur’, ‘The Lunchbox’ and ‘Kennedy’, were previously screened in sections like Midnight Shows and Directors’ Midnight Shows. With ‘Laalo – Krishna Sada Sahaayate’ heading to the Cannes market, Gujarati cinema is set to achieve a proud world-historical achievement.
