Cameron Diaz is heading into camp with a planned sequel to the movie Troop Beverly Hills.

Clea DuVall is set to write and direct the film, which TriStar Pictures is working on and is a follow-up to the original 1989 comedy starring Shelley Long. Diaz is developing the project as a potential star vehicle.

Plot details are currently under wraps. Lawrence Mark (Greatest Showman) serves as a producer alongside Diaz and the star’s business partner, Katherine Power.

Troop Beverly Hills The film revolves around Phyllis Niffler (Long), a Beverly Hills socialite who goes through a divorce and decides to lead a Boy Scout troop. Craig T. Nelson, Betty Thomas, Mary Gross, Stephanie Beacham, Carla Gugino, and Jenny Lewis rounded out the cast of the film, which collected $8.5 million at the box office ($22 million today). It has since developed a cult following.

Ava Fries has a story credit in the original film inspired by her real-life experiences managing her daughter’s Girl Scout troop. Pamela Norris and Margaret Oberman wrote the screenplay for director Jeff Canio’s film, which was released by Sony Pictures in 1989.

Diaz has previously starred in Sony projects such as Charlie’s Angels privilege, Vacation and Bad teacher.

DuVall wrote and directed the holiday comedy for TriStar Happiest season which starred Kristen Stewart and debuted on Hulu in 2020. DuVall is also known for acting in features such as Hatred and Argo He will appear in the next season of The last of us.

Diaz is represented by LBI Entertainment. DuVall is repped by UTA and Ginsburg Daniels Kallis.
