While speaking with Classic Rock magazine recently, the iconic Canadian rock singer spoke about his career and what he has achieved in the past 50 years as an artist. He even touched on how and why his most popular anthem, “Summer of ’69,” came into being.He revealed that he was always upset that he didn’t write the lyrics to “Summer of ’69” and shared that they were inspired by Bob Seger’s 1976 song “Night Moves.” He added: “It’s a great song. It always pisses me off that I didn’t write it.”
Furthermore, he praised Seger and his song for embodying the essence of nostalgia.He added: “It’s a nostalgic song. Romanticism. Teenage blues, that awkwardness of trying to figure out sexuality – it’s all there.” He also concluded with the quote, “I got my first real six-string / Bought ’em for five and ten cents / Played ’em till my fingers bled / It was the summer of ’69.”
