She added: “The type that Bruce has affects language, but there is another variable that will affect behavior and another that can affect movement.”As for clarifying what she meant when she said Willis’ brain was failing him last year, Hemming noted, “That’s a different part of the brain. So when people say, ‘Oh, you know, does he remember who you are?'” Well, he does because he doesn’t have Alzheimer’s; he has FTD.“It’s a very common misconception that when you think of dementia, we think of memory loss,” Hemming added, citing some official statistics in the interview.

It is different from Alzheimer’s disease. Alzheimer’s disease is the most common form of dementia, but frontotemporal dementia is the most common form of dementia in people under 60 years of age.For context, veteran actor Bruce Willis retired in 2022. Initially, his family announced that he would be stepping away from films due to his aphasia diagnosis. Later, in February 2023, they announced that the actor’s condition had deteriorated. This led to him suffering from a type of dementia that particularly affects the frontal and temporal lobes of the brain.
