As Bridgerton enters its fifth season, the show continues to add to its cast.
Tega Alexander, Jacqueline Boatswain, and Gemma Knight Jones are joining the Netflix series for the upcoming season. Season 5 will focus on the romance between Bridgerton’s middle daughter Francesca (Hannah Dodd) and her late husband’s cousin Michaela Sterling (Masali Baduza).
Alexander (MobLand) will play Christopher Anderson, the son of Lord Anderson (Daniel Francis). The character is described as “a Regency-era Casanova who can give Bridgerton’s bachelors a run for their money. But behind his gruff façade lies an undercurrent of self-doubt that threatens to unravel him. Lord Anderson’s son will make his mark on society, one way or another.”
boat captain (Marlowe Murder Club) will play Michaela’s mother, Helen Stirling. Helen looks forward to guiding her daughter and occasionally pushing her through the social season in London, applying tough love when necessary.
Jones (also A MobLand alum) to play Lady Elizabeth Ashworth, an old friend of Michaela’s who is her best friend and guide to London. The character is described as cheerful but also realistic and well aware of society’s unspoken rules.
The official description for Season 5 says: “Season 5 of Bridgerton The spotlight is on the introverted middle daughter, Francesca. Two years after losing her beloved husband John, Fran decided to return to the marriage market for practical reasons. But when John’s cousin Michaela returns to London to look after the Kilmartin estate, Fran’s complicated feelings will make her wonder whether she should stick to her practical intentions or follow her innermost passions.
Jess Brownell is showrunner for season five and executive produces with Shonda Rhimes, Betsy Beers, Tom Verica and Chris Van Dusen.
