Can you be happily married while living a double life? Especially if that double life involves someone else? One way to explore this question is to watch Kate, the novel’s heroine Brave new loveThe new feature film by writer and director Maria Buck (I remember when I die, Psychosis in Stockholm) which will have its world premiere on August 9 at the 79th International Competitiony A copy of the Locarno Film Festival in Switzerland.
But be careful: things can get awkward sometimes.
After all, Kate, a hypnotherapist, lives happily with her husband Orla and their daughter Athena. But she is also involved in a secret romantic relationship with another man, Andreas. “After years of secrecy, the fragile balance in her double life begins to crumble,” the film’s synopsis reads. “As a role model for her daughter, she struggles to navigate her existential quest—a journey filled with bodily fluids, intimacy, Greek mythology, laughter, madness, and foolishness.” In the process, Kate struggles to redefine love.
Catherine Thorborg Johansen (Postmortem: No one dies in Skarnes) Kate is played by Simon Sears (Shadow and bones) is the husband of Orla and Anders Danielsen Lee (Emotional value, Everyone digs Bill Evans, The worst person in the world) depicts Andreas. Young Noemi Carbone Manoff plays Athena and Angeliki Papulia (Dog tooth, crayfish) also appears in the cast.

“There are a lot of inherent rules and expectations associated with love,” Buck says of the film. “I wanted to explore these often absurd ideas through wit and sensuality, creating a mirror of the unity and power of a burning heart.”
