Bob Iger is embarking on a new era after recently handing over the keys of Disney to new CEO Josh D’Amaro, and that era includes some new accolades.

The Perelman Center for the Performing Arts (known as PAC NYC), which was the final piece in the post-9/11 rebuilding of the World Trade Center, will present the PAC NYC Culture Award to Iger at its fall gala scheduled for October 27. The evening, presented by BNY, will honor Iger for his impact on culture and his impact on the world while also celebrating the artistic excellence of the Perelman Center for the Performing Arts.

Michael R. Bloomberg — who serves as chair of PAC NYC — and Diane von Furstenberg — who will receive the Culture Icon Award in 2025 — made the announcement at an event at Diane von Furstenberg Studios in Manhattan’s Meatpacking District on Tuesday evening; Robin Roberts and PAC NYC artistic director Bill Rauch, who is also co-director of the Tony-nominated film Cats: Jellicle BallHe was also among the attendees.

“Bob Iger is one of the world’s most ambitious and effective CEOs, with 40 years of experience in media and entertainment,” Bloomberg said. “As CEO of Disney, he led one of the world’s most influential companies to new heights – including an unparalleled string of global box office successes. He has been deeply committed to Lower Manhattan as a board member and supporter of the September 11 Memorial and Museum, and as an early champion of the PAC. We are also fortunate to have him on the board of Bloomberg Philanthropies.”

Von Furstenberg added: “It is an honor to pass the baton of this prestigious recognition to my friend Bob Iger. Bob has been a superstar throughout his life…a visionary, an exceptional leader, as well as a wonderful husband, loving father and compassionate citizen! No one deserves it more than him!”

The PAC NYC gala will highlight Iger’s story, which began in New York — and rose to fame as a local weatherman in Ithaca — before rising to the top of Disney. All proceeds from this event will go directly to PAC NYC’s artistic, civic and educational programs.
