After a successful theatrical release, the Tamil sports drama Bison Kaalamaadan has found a wider audience on Netflix, where it began streaming from November 21.
Directed by Mari Selvaraj, the film stars Dhruv Vikram as Kittan, a young man from rural Tamil Nadu battling caste discrimination and systemic violence while chasing his dream of becoming a national-level kabaddi player.
Set against the backdrop of 1990s Tamil Nadu, Bison draws inspiration from the life of real-life kabaddi athlete Manathi Ganesan, popularly known as “Bison” for his strength on the field. While not a strict biopic, the film captures the emotional and social realities surrounding the sport.
The film also features Anupama Parameswaran, Rajisha Vijayan, Pasupathy, Ameer, and Lal in key roles, with music composed by Nivas K. Prasanna.
Critics largely praised Dhruv Vikram’s restrained performance and Selvaraj’s political subtext. The film currently holds a 7.7 rating on IMDb, with reviews highlighting its raw portrayal of caste dynamics within rural sports ecosystems.
Produced by Applause Entertainment and Neelam Studios, Bison Kaalamaadan reportedly earned around ₹75 crore worldwide, marking it as one of the notable Tamil successes of 2025.
With its Netflix release in multiple Indian languages, Bison continues to spark conversations around representation, resilience, and the social cost of ambition.
