Veteran director Bharathiraja, one of the most influential directors in the history of Tamil cinema, has died at the age of 84. The popular director reportedly breathed his last at his residence in Chennai in the early hours of Wednesday following age-related health complications. The Indian Express reports that his health condition has deteriorated in recent months, especially after the sudden death of his son Manoj in 2025.
