Netflix leans towards the romantic comedy genre Court historyoriginal special from Michael Montemayor.
Berlanti/Schechter Films, the premium film company run by prolific television experts Greg Berlanti and Sarah Schechter, will produce.
While details remain confidential under a restraining order, it is understood to be a romantic comedy centered around two young lawyers on opposite sides of a legal case who fall in love.
The deal marks the first sale for the rising Montemayor, who began his career as a writer’s assistant to Dana Fox, the veteran romantic comedy writer who most recently wrote evil Movies in action Cruella For Disney and Lost city For Paramount.
Montemayor is establishing himself as a favorite writer at Disney, where he wrote first Cinderella Titled Reimagined Sisterswhich attracted Akiva Schaffer as director, is now working on live action in the studio tangledwhich goes into production this spring.
With Netflix, Montemayor, previously represented, sold the company a featurette titled My mother is Mexican With Eva Longoria attached to direct and produce. In addition to his film work, the writer produces social content that has garnered over 40 million views across platforms, with a voice focused on celebrating the LGBTQ+ community.
Berlanti/Schechter Films is currently in post-production on the rom-com Red, white and royal wedding.
