Today, they know him as “Rocky,” “The Tulsa King,” and “Rambo,” but there was a time when Sylvester Stallone had no foundation to stand on. It dates back to the 1970s, when Sylvester Stallone could barely get by with his odd jobs and small acting roles.
Survival was so difficult that Sylvester Stallone had to sell his beloved dog Butkus for $40.Selling it was probably one of the hardest things Stallone had to do to survive. Thus, he turned over every stone to get his beloved pet back. Then life took a turn for good, and the script for Rocky sold. That’s when Sylvester Stallone bought back Butkus. The dog he sold for $40 was bought back for a staggering $15,000.
However, according to Sylvester Stallone, Butkus was “worth every penny.”
When Sylvester Stallone lied about selling his dog before he rose to fame
This page of Sylvester’s life is very close to the actor’s heart, and he is never ashamed to talk about it. “1971…since we’re on the subject of ‘man’s best friend,'” Sylvester once wrote in a 2017 post, recalling his relationship with Butkus and the time he had to sell him to make ends meet. Butkus and I as puppies, skinny and hungry and living in a modest house above a subway station, used to say this apartment had “…hot and cold cockroaches.” Anyway, there wasn’t much to do except spend time with each other and that’s when I began to learn the craft of screenwriting.
“He continued, “Since I never directed, I relied on his buddies, and in fact it was his idea to write Rocky, but don’t tell anyone…. Years later, when things got bad, I had to sell it for $40 in front of a 7-Eleven, because I/c couldn’t buy the food, and then, like a modern-day miracle, the Rocky script was sold, and I could buy it and buy it back.”“But the new owner knew I was desperate, and charged me $15,000…it was worth every penny!” conclude.
