Beartooth has been a part of the music industry for some time now. One of the band members, Caleb Shomo, recently shared an emotional post on social media, revealing that he is gay.
The singer spoke about dealing with his emotions and reflected on the journey leading up to the revelation.
Caleb Shomo is coming out as gay
The singer and rock band frontman recently took to social media to open up about his identity as a queer man. He began his post by writing: “There’s been a lot of speculation surrounding my personal life lately, and I feel compelled to set the record straight before it affects those I love most.”He explained that he wanted to clarify matters himself before rumors escalated. He then added, “I’m a proud gay man. This is something I’ve been thinking about and weighing in my life for some time now. It’s been difficult navigating the emotions surrounding the topic and knowing what to do with that fact.”
Caleb Shomo says his identity has shaped his music
Furthermore, Shomo reflected on how his identity as a gay man has profoundly influenced his music and creative process over the years.
“I have always sought to chase my identity in the deepest part of my soul from album to album,” he wrote.“As you can conclude if you’ve followed the band at all in previous years, there are four very self-deprecating albums about exploring my religious upbringing, depression, self-hatred, self-loathing, and despair,” he added.
Caleb Shomo talks about his struggle with alcohol
In the same post, the singer also spoke about his long struggle with alcohol and how it became a coping mechanism as he wrestled with his emotions.“I spent a decade burying my feelings with alcohol, and honestly, when I decided to put it aside and focus on exploring why I felt this way for so long, it was a direct path for me to come to terms with my sexuality in the hopes that it would eventually lead to an experience of self-love.”Caleb Shomo is the founding member of Beartooth and is currently the only original member remaining since the band’s formation in 2012.
