Score another award season win for Battle after battle.

Colin Anderson was named Cinematographer of the Year for his work on Paul Thomas Anderson’s epic, whose tableaux moved from armed borderlands to desert highway chases. The Society of Camera Operators’ honor follows a slew of technical awards for the film, including from the Cinema Editors of America, the Art Directors Guild, and the British Society of Cinematographers; The American Society of Cinematographers decides Sunday. The award was announced in a ceremony broadcast live on Saturday evening.

On the TV side, Mark Guellnecht won Camera Operator of the Year for his work on the popular “The Oner” episode of the Apple TV+ show. studioin which Sarah Polley’s character tries to direct a movie and Seth Rogen tries to supervise it in a chaotic one-hour show. Goellnicht is a veteran operator Mad Max: Fury Road and The Great Gatsby Among his credits.

Camera operators work closely with cinematographers and directors to ensure equipment is placed in the best position and maintained to capture the intended shot — “the connective tissue between the vision and the audience,” according to Camera Operators Association President Matthew Moriarty.

Moriarty also noted in a statement that “the past several years have presented extraordinary challenges to our industry” — likely referring to artificial intelligence — “yet our work has remained bold, innovative, and deeply human.” He said this was evidence of the “enduring strength and resilience of the camera community.”

Anderson is no stranger to big films or PTAs. He also worked on the Star Trek and Star Wars films There will be blood, Mr., Inherent vice and The imaginary thread. He was also nominated that year against himself for his work Marty Supreme.

He’s also no stranger to awards: six years ago the Camera Operators Association gave him a Lifetime Achievement Award.
