Barry Pepper will meet Kiefer Sutherland at noon.
The two will have a good old-fashioned showdown Knighta feature-length Western from Nomadic Pictures set for an early 2027 release via Scripps Networks, which here prominently includes the multiplatform Grit Channel.
Knightdirected by Rod Lurie (rival, The last castle) and developed and co-written by Pepper (Saving Private Ryan, True grit) and Ed Gass Donnelly, Knight The film is set in the late 19th century in the West, “where America’s growing demand for lighting has created a transformative oil rush,” according to the line of reasoning.
Pepper stars in Knight As “the man,” “the grieving father and husband devastated by the loss of his family, who adopts a young colt, and raises him as his only companion,” the record continues. “Over time, the two develop an extraordinary and profound bond. When they are separated against their will, a man must take desperate measures to reunite with the only family he has left.”
That would be the horse.
Sutherland (24) plays the film’s big bad – “a narcissistic aristocrat preoccupied with demonstrating his superiority through intellect, wealth and violence. Educated, ruthless and a gun-wielding murderer, he seeks land and power with a callous disregard for anyone who dares get in his way.”
C. Thomas Howell (1923, Strangers), as (Rush hour, 24 With Sutherland, Mulan(And Ryan Michel Pathy)Boston Legal, First Wives Club).
KnightIt is currently filming in Canada and is produced in association with Peace River Pictures and Scripps Networks. Nomadic Pictures holds worldwide distribution rights; Scripps them in the United States
“Westerners who are nostalgic for my youth – The good, the bad and the ugly, Ryder paled, Outlaw Josey Walesand then the unforgiven “—they were straightforward stories with minimal dialogue, often featuring mysterious, nameless deviants,” Pepper said Hollywood Reporter. “These characters, portrayed by my childhood heroes Clint Eastwood and Gary Cooper, served as the model for the ‘man’ at the heart of our film.”
“The story for Knight Crystallized during filming True grit“, where I witnessed first-hand the extraordinarily intuitive and sensitive nature of horses – how they react to the smallest movement, feel your tension, the beat of your heart, the turn of your head, the shift of your hips. I understood why cowboys developed such deep connections with these magnificent creatures and wanted to bring that to life for modern-day fans of classic western films.”
“We have an audience that is very passionate about Grit and has a keen interest in the Western genre,” added Adam Harman, senior vice president of programming at Scripps. “Knight It matches what we are looking for in a film for our audience; This is a truly exceptional project that will connect those with a love for classic Western films and those who have rediscovered the genre through modern storytelling that is driving a cultural renaissance. Nomadic Pictures has a proven track record of creating award-winning content, especially in this genre. Combined with Barry’s vision, Rod Lurie’s direction, and a strong cast led by Barry and Kiefer, we think… Knight It has all the makings of a modern Western classic – one that audiences will return to for years with repeat viewings.
“There are few things that make a list of directors faster than a list of Western films,” Lurie said. “Barry Pepper’s beautiful screenplay achieves two things at once. It is an absolutely classic Western and also something deeply sentimental – a wonderful study in enduring grief. With words like those delivered by Barry and the acting talent in our film, my job became not only easy, but happy.”
“The Scripps team has been a great partner since day one,” said Chad Oakes, co-president of Nomadic Pictures. “Being the catalyst in bringing Barry Pepper’s incredible script to life makes this even more personal. Re-teaming with our dear friend and director Rod Lurie and DP Craig Wrobleski completes this amazing project, which we feel audiences will love.”
