“Avengers: Doomsday”: Robert Downey Jr. returns as Doctor Doom;

Fans are rejoicing that Robert Downey Jr. will return to the MCU in “Avengers: Doomsday,” not as Iron Man, but as iconic villain Doctor Doom. Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige revealed that the casting decision was made three and a half years ago, with the aim of making the famous actor portray the most powerful adversary in the universe.

Robert Downey Jr. is perhaps one of the most beloved actors in the Marvel universe and the “Avengers” franchise. His Iron Man character and death in Avengers: Endgame were met with a lot of emotional response.

Thus, the announcement of his return as a new character in “Avengers: Doomsday” was a big surprise and a moment of celebration for fans. Recently, the team behind the upcoming superhero film shared the experience of bringing back the famous actor, but in a villainous role this time.

‘Avengers: Doomsday’ cast casts Robert Downey Jr.

While speaking with Entertainment Weekly, Kevin Feige, president of the studios behind the Marvel universe, said that the possibility of the “Iron Man” actor returning was never out of the question.

During his interview he revealed that even after ‘Endgame’, they had been in contact with the actor for the longest time for possible future roles.While Iron Man dies in “Endgame,” making his return not a possible option, he was instead cast in a completely contradictory role. “It’s woven into the fabric of the MCU for obvious reasons, and we’ll talk about when, how and if there could be a return,” Feige said. He started planning his comeback 3 and a half years ago.

He revealed that the team at the studio was planning to bring the MCU’s most iconic villain, Dr. Victor Von Doom, to the big screen, and felt that Downey was the perfect choice for it. Feige added further context on why he was chosen, “At the time, [Downey] He was on his way to winning an Oscar for Oppenheimer and there was every story about “the greatest actor in the world,” and we thought this could be him.
