Zach Cregger reunites with Warner Bros.’ New Line division. Motion Picture Group for his next original film.
Krieger, who directed last year’s Oscar-winning horror film Weapons For the company, he has written, and will direct, The floodan original sci-fi film that the studio is moving at full speed, is scheduled for release on August 11, 2028.
The project brings him together Weapons Producers Roy Lee and Miri Yoon of Vertigo Entertainment are interestingly working with professed Cregger fan Steven Spielberg. The latter’s company Amblin Entertainment is also producing the film flood.
The announcement, made by Warners’ Mike De Luca and Pam Abdi, came in the final few minutes of the studio’s presentation at CinemaCon in Las Vegas.

The director’s previous projects were modern horror and thrillers, and this project is described as being very similar to the sci-fi template.

Weaponswhich New Line/Warners won in a fierce bidding war, blew up at the box office last August, becoming an unexpected success and sensation. It earned approximately $270 million worldwide on a $38 million budget and introduced the Aunt Gladys character into the ecosphere of popular culture.
Amy Madigan won an Academy Award for her role. There’s a prequel now in the works. Krieger will not direct, but is co-writing with Zach Shields. The release date is set for September 8, 2028, making it a very Cregger-heavy 2028 release for New Line.
