Arjith Shankar, son of director S Shankar, begins his acting journey; “Lover Boy” starts rolling

Enter Arijit Shankar, son of director S. Shankar officially entered the world of cinema with the release of his first film, ‘Lover Boy’. The project was introduced through a traditional Puja ceremony that marked the beginning of the film’s production.

The romantic drama is directed by newcomer Ashok Kumar, former assistant to director Atlee. The film pairs Arijit with Telugu actress Krithi Shetty who was last seen in Pradeep Ranganathan’s ‘LIK’.Directors H. Vinoth, AR Murugadoss and Jason Sanjay along with producer Madhan were among those who attended the puja ceremony. Music composer Thejas Krishna makes his Tamil debut with the song Lover Boy.

The production team makes an official announcement

The production team shared their official announcement on social media, describing the launch in a celebratory tone. “An auspicious beginning to a journey full of love, laughter and rosy beginnings,” they wrote.Following the announcement, Shankar shared pictures from the event on social media.One user commented: “Best wishes to the entire Lover boy Blockbuster team Loading…”Another comment read: “After your next project, please write a story for your son sir. He looks promising. He needs good directors like you. Please don’t hesitate.”

Meanwhile, director Shankar’s recent directorial projects include ‘Game Changer’ (2025), a Telugu political action film starring Ram Charan and Kiara Advani, which received mixed response from audiences.

He also directed Kamal Haasan’s film ‘Indian 2’ (2024) and this film also received mixed reviews upon its release. With mixed reviews and poor box office performance of films after Vikram’s ‘I’, fans of the veteran director are anticipating a big comeback with a much-awaited project.Recent reports said that Shankar is planning a fast-paced thriller with a young hero and this project might happen before his upcoming film ‘Velpari’ scripted by Soo. Venkatesan.
