Ari Aster ventures into TV with Media Res deal (Exclusive)

Director Ari Aster is looking to expand his work to the small screen.

the Eddington and midsummer The author and his producing partner Lars Knudsen have signed a first-look deal with Media Res, the independent studio behind Apple TV. Morning show and Pachinko. Under the two-year contract, Aster and Knudsen’s Square Peg will develop and produce series projects for Media Res.

“We are thrilled to partner with the brilliantly bold Ari Aster and the amazing team at Square Peg, led by Lars Knudsen,” Michael Ellenberg, founder of Media Res, said in a statement. “They have a proven track record of producing groundbreaking works, collaborating with many of the best filmmakers, actors and writers working today. Their ambitions for series are equally high, and we can’t wait to bring their broad, eye-catching visions to audiences around the world.”

The deal marks Aster and Knudsen’s first foray into television since they founded Square Peg in 2019, after working together on Aster’s first feature film, Hereditary. The company was behind Aster’s three subsequent features (Midsummer, Poe is afraid and Eddington) and also produced the film, which was nominated for an Academy Award Bugonia, Northman And an upcoming A24 feature DramaStarring Robert Pattinson and Zendaya.
