Anne Hathaway has humorously revealed she was concerned she had offended director Christopher Nolan while they were working together on Interstellar, fearing the incident might prevent him from casting her in future projects.

The actress spoke about the gap between her second and third collaboration with the director and talked about her unique relationship with one of cinema’s most eclectic directors. She admitted that “The Odyssey” marks Hathaway’s third film with Nolan and expressed how “delightful” it must be when he reaches out to her to star in his films. During an appearance on Late Night with Seth Meyers, the host noted that no one would turn down a Nolan project and talked about how rare it is for an actor to get multiple opportunities from a director, given the many options he has during casting.

While reflecting on Interstellar, Anne Hathaway joked that she hopes she didn’t say anything that would stop Christopher Nolan from casting her again.

The terrifying crime that never happened

Anne Hathaway traced her career with Nolan, starting with The Dark Knight Rises when she was in her late twenties, followed by Interstellar, a film for which she has expressed a deep love. However, Nolan did not include her in many of the projects he directed after Interstellar. This gap prompted Hathaway to humorously speculate about why the director might have looked elsewhere.“So I was like, ‘I hope I didn’t say anything while we were in space.’

But we see each other. Everything will be great. “Then, yeah, I got the call,” she said with a laugh, jokingly noting that she was worried about inadvertently offending Nolan while they were working on the alien movie.Despite the apparent distance between the projects, Hathaway maintained that their professional relationship remained warm and collegial throughout. “But we will see each other, and everything will be fine,” she added, noting that any noticeable gap is purely professional and not personal.

Anne Hathaway praises Christopher Nolan's directing style

When discussing her experience on “The Odyssey,” Hathaway offered special insight into Nolan’s unique directing approach. She praised the director’s brilliance and the “amazing” experience working with him. “And I think what I saw with The Odyssey in particular is that he built the movie with his mind and then directed it while we were there with his heart,” she said, explaining a distinctive quality of his approach to filmmaking. Her observation demonstrated the duality of Nolan’s process: the meticulous intellectual planning that precedes production combined with the emotional authenticity he brings to direct actors on set. This insight highlights why Hathaway valued her collaboration with the director and suggests why Nolan chose to reunite with her for this latest project after the breakup between Interstellar and The Odyssey.“The Odyssey” hits theaters July 17.
