The year 2026 is here, and it looks like it’s going to be a great year for animation (for adults and kids alike)! Here are our picks for the anime series and movies we’re most looking forward to!
Primal – Season 3

Genndy Tartakovsky Primitive It offers a very brutal story set in the Stone Age, with plenty of action and drama sprinkled throughout. Season 2 had a very limited ending that was basically the end of Spear’s story, but there’s a brand new season on the way, which will hopefully be just as entertaining as what came before. Primitive Season 3 is scheduled to premiere on January 11, 2026 on Adult Swim.
Super Mario Galaxy movie

This sequel to The Super Mario Bros. movie is scheduled to be released. on April 3, 2026 and will return Chris Pratt and Charlie Day as the voices of brothers Mario and Luigi. They are joined by Anya Taylor-Joy as Princess Peach, Jack Black as Bowser, as well as Revenge, along with newcomer Brie Larson as the voice of Rosalina. The movie should cover more concepts and plots inspired by the Mario Universe (or Galaxy) video games, which should be fun and viewers don’t really need to be hardcore gamers to enjoy it.
Stranger Things: Tales from ’85

Stranger Things has come to an end, and regardless of what you thought of the final episode, the series’ creators (the Duffer Brothers) have hinted at spinoffs coming. First up, the “Tales From ’85” animated series! Set around Season 3 (aka “1985”), it’s actually a welcome “change of pace” for the series – as it doesn’t have to resolve plot lines or expand on lore (although it probably should). Instead, this anime series gives us what we love: more stories set in this universe! With interdimensional monsters, 80s music, and stylish animation, what’s not to like?
The Legend of Aang: The Last Airbender

Regardless of how you feel about the live-action “Avatar: The Last Airbender” show currently streaming on Netflix, fans of the original “Avatar” series have been waiting for a new project set in the “The Last Airbender” universe for years. This upcoming film promises to show a continuation of Aang’s story, and it has been said that it will lead to more animated films and a new animated series, but the hype around this upcoming film has taken a hit recently with… Announcing its transfer to broadcast (Instead of releasing it in theaters). However, that doesn’t change the fact that every glimpse we get of this project looks amazing, bringing back all the happy memories we have of this franchise in its glory days (late 2000s).
Coyote vs. crest

If it was last year The Day the Earth Exploded: The Looney Tunes Movie It was the first “rallying cry” of fans saving animated shows from “David Zaslov/HBO Max/Discovery Monster,” and then “Coyote vs Acme” in theaters is all that, on steroids. The news that this movie could be turned into a “tax write-off” will leave angry fans of these characters aside. There hasn’t been this much love for the “Road Runner/Coyote” story in years.
Yes, it’s not a fully animated film, as existing Looney Tunes characters will interact with the actors in some scenes, as happened previously in both films. Space jam Movies (and Looney Tunes: Back to Action). But still, this is a victory for fans uniting to defend the theatrical experience of classic cartoon characters (which is what Looney Tunes represents in the eyes of many cartoon fans).
Honorable Mention:
Considering how much Star Wars has merged with animation over the past decade, it’s worth paying tribute to two different projects being released next year: the first is Star Wars: Maul – Shadow Lord Animated series (featuring the return of Sam Witmer – aka the world’s biggest Star Wars fan, in the role of Maul). The story recounts the events of what happened to Maul between the Clone Wars and the final conclusion of his plan in “Star Wars: Rebels.” The other is a “Star Wars: Visions” anthology series. Star Wars: Revelations Advance – The Ninth Jedi. The “Visions” line is always an exciting anime, so we will be watching this movie with great interest.
But these are our choices. What are animated series or movies? You Looking forward to more in 2026?!?
