Amitabh Bachchan shared an honest post on Tumblr about the 2026 World Cup, admitting that the timing of the match ruined his routine as he contemplated the “unfair decisions” and unexpected upsets. He praised the opportunities available to young players to represent their country. Meanwhile, Argentina struggled to overcome Switzerland, and FIFA may expand the 2030 World Cup tournament to 64 teams.
The 2026 Men’s World Cup has reached its final week, and after a month of exciting matches across North America, England, Argentina, Spain and France have overcome challenges along the way, with the biggest challenge yet to come.
Veteran actor Amitabh Bachchan, an ardent follower of the tournament, revealed that the match schedules had thrown his daily routine off track. In a long and poignant post on his Tumblr blog, he spoke candidly about World Cup fever and the thoughts running through his mind about young players getting a chance to represent their countries.
Amitabh Bachchan talks about ‘unfair decisions’ in the tournament
He wrote at the beginning of his post: “The timelines and the idea of time have deviated… and the reason, of course, is WC 2026…
The times we see are strange and they make our days worse.. But we see that we cheer and feel remorse.. We see with great sadness the unfair decisions that are made in favor of one person rather than the other.. And we get excited about the victories of those countries that we never imagined would reach the challenge of the World Cup. Most of the famous and well-known football nations have lost with great regret.
. This is surprising…but he is thrilled by the fact that those we never imagined fought back and gained recognition.
“They keep saying ‘I hope the best team wins’… but we never know who the better team is until the results are in.”He added: “Most of the teams that play with each other for their country have played in other competitions and tournaments and the players are involved… Many of those who play for England also play in other tournaments, with members of the England national team and they know each other well and know their game… Friendly outside the field, they compete on it because they represent their country…
It’s a strange situation, but the game goes on.
“Like in the Indian Super League, players play in different teams and become rivals to each other…but when they are all put together for the national team, they become one person, and it takes a personality.”“The speed of change for the better is a blessing. Young people see it and benefit from it. Adults are surprised and wonder why this did not happen when they were young.. And now it is too late..
We’re too late to see what’s to come in the coming years.. We won’t be there, but our youthful will and that’s a relief.. of sorts. There is little sun where I live and I need to enjoy what little I can.
. “I haven’t seen the sun for months,” he concluded.
Amitabh Bachchan refers to Argentina’s rocky career
Argentina’s last two matches continue to raise eyebrows, especially after their win over Egypt a few days ago. Although Switzerland played over an hour with just ten men, Lionel Scaloni’s side needed extra time to contest a third successive knockout match, with the European outfit repeatedly exposing cracks in Argentina’s defense before Julian Alvarez and Lautaro Martinez eventually secured their places in the next round.
Elsewhere, the FIFA World Cup could be on the verge of another major transformation, just a year after it was expanded to 48 teams, FIFA president Gianni Infantino has confirmed that a proposal to expand the tournament to 64 countries for the 2030 edition will be up for discussion.
